Raymond Lavern Thomas, 86, of Cassville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, in Cassville Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born June 29, 1927, in the Cross Hollows area in Barry County, the son of Earl and Gladys (Johnson) Thomas. On Sept. 7, 1950, in Barry County, he was united in marriage to Lois E. Patton, who preceded him in death on March 23, 2000. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Charles Thomas, and one sister, Carolyn Rose.

Survivors include: two daughters, Rayma Garner, of Cassville, and Kathy Porter and her husband, Larry, of Exeter; his significant other, Dorann Hansen, and her family Linda Gabel and her husband, Alvin, of Exeter, Nancy Strasburg and her husband, Craig, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Dan Wilderbuer and his fiancé, Sue Beagle, of Cassville; one sister, Betty Wallace and her husband, Howard, of Holiday Island, Ark.; three grandchildren, Ray Garner and his wife, Aya, Matthew Garner and Ashley Stephens and her husband, Bryce; 10 step-grandchildren; five great- grandchildren, Lorranda, Triston, Sebastian and Luka Garner and Allie Stephens; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

He received his education at county schools and attended high school at Cassville, where he graduated. During World War II he joined the U.S. Marine Corp, serving from October 1945 to October 1946. He then returned to Barry County, where he farmed and retired from MFA in Cassville. He enjoyed playing sports and was on the Cassville Blues Baseball Team. He loved playing the fiddle and guitar and he enjoyed fishing.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Doyle Russell conducted the services. Burial was at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Cassville.
