Cassville 8th-grader raises $200 for Susan G. Komen
An eighth-grade student at Cassville Middle School has raised $200 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.
Audra Brooks, 14, of Cassville raised the money by crocheting hand-made scarves and selling them for $12 each at her mother's work and to her teachers at school.
"I thought it would be cool to raise money for something, and I know it's not much, but it's cool," she said. "I'm still making some scarves, and I'll be selling them in October at a booth in the Chili Cookoff, but for something else."
Brooks said she chose the Susan G. Komen Foundation for this fundraiser because she knows a lot of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, including her great-grandmother, who died of the disease.
Brooks said with the help of Family and Consumer Science Teacher Ann Ellis, the check to Susan G. Komen has already been mailed off.
