Plant 1 sees smoke damage in outdoor blaze

The Cassville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire outside the Justin Boot Factory on Jan. 22 at about 1:40 p.m.

According to Fireman Chuck Miner, the fire occurred outside Plant 1 of the factory, located at 11th and Presley Streets in Cassville.

Two fire engines, two apparatus and about seven personnel responded to the blaze, quickly dousing the flames and leaving the scene at about 3 p.m.

Miner said there was some smoke damage inside the building near the area where the fire occurred, near the back door of the building.

Megan Force, communications manager with Justin Brands, said there were people working at the factory at the time of the fire, but no one was injured. The factory was, however, evacuated for precautionary reasons.

Force said the fire started in the dust collector, which is housed outside the plant, and the factory has already obtained replacement units.

The plant employs 280 people, and Force said although one building was temporarily shut down on Jan. 23, everyone returned to work by Jan. 24
