Mt. Vernon girls top Cassville on hardwood

The Mt. Vernon Lady Mountaineers outscored the Cassville Lady Wildcats 14-4 in the first period and held on for a 49-25 win Thursday night in hoops action.

Cassville was led in scoring by Raeghan Blisard with 10 points. Layne Drake and Shea Vandergrift led the Lady Mountaineers in scoring with 18 and 11 points respectively.

The Lady Wildcats will be in action this week in the Galena Tournament.

Southwest handles Wheaton, 69-32

A huge first quarter carried the Southwest Trojans to a 69-32 basketball win over Wheaton on Friday night.

The Trojans (5-7) outscored the Bulldogs (2-11) 25-7 in the opening stanza and led 39-11 halftime.

Blake Barnes scored 18 points to lead Southwest and Michael Priest recorded 8 points to pace Wheaton.

Wheaton continues its season this week in the Sarcoxie Tournament. Southwest will be in action on Monday at home with Blue Eye.

Exeter girls earn win over Thomas Jefferson

The Exeter Lady Tigers improved to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in Ozark 7 Conference play with a 48-20 win over Thomas Jefferson on Friday.

Exeter's Mikayla Meyer led the Lady Tiger with 19 points. Rayanna Fair added 9 points and Logan Senters recorded 8 points for the winners.

Exeter continues action in the Sarcoxie Tournament this week.

Southwest girls top Wheaton

The Southwest Lady Trojans topped the Wheaton Lady Bulldogs, 69-32, on Friday in Ozark 7 Conference play.

Southwest outscored Wheaton 20-4 in the first quarter, and led 36-15 at halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Jera Prewitt with 9 points. Shannon Mitchell recorded 18 points to lead Southwest, and teammates Jaime Shrum and Montana Hendrix added 15 apiece.

Wheaton (0-9, 0-1) continues its season in the Galena on Friday. The ame time and opponent are to be determined.

Southwest travels to Diamond on Friday, with tip-off slated for 6 p.m.

Second quarter dooms Lady Bulldogs

A 21-6 run in the second quarter doomed the Wheaton Lady Bulldogs, 55-36, against the Sarcoxie Lady Bears on Thursday.

Wheaton trailed 10-9 after the first period before the lid shut on the rim.

Carson Chandler recorded 13 points to lead the Lady Bears. Jera Prewitt exploded for 18 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Pierce City rolls over Purdy Eagles

The Pierce City Eagles used a balanced scoring attack to top the Purdy Eagles in varsity hoops on Friday.

Pierce City led 15-8 after one, 23-17 at halftime and 44-31 after three periods of play.

Purdy was led in scoring by Brent Cornman with 15 points.

Pierce City was paced by Kole Kelley with 15, and Zack Hyde and Colton Drollinger with 14 each.

Pierce City girls too much for Purdy

The Pierce City Lady Eagles were too much for the Purdy Lady Eagles Friday night, winning 79-54.

Pierce City (8-5) pulled away from Purdy (6-5) with a 23-9 run in the second quarter and led 41-28 at halftime.

Christine Younker scored 35 points and Mattie Brottlund recorded a career-high 19 points to lead Pierce City. Purdy was led by Courtney White and Jayse Jenderson with 11 points apiece.

Purdy begins action in the Galena Tournament this week.
