Cassville R-4 District adds calendar days
Maximum amount of snow days used
While students at area schools may have enjoyed some unscheduled snow days, administrators are now looking at the end of the school calendar trying to add lost days back in without classes stretching into late May.
"So far, we have missed 10 days," said Richard Asbill, superintendent of the R-4 District. "We've added Friday, Feb. 14, and Monday, Feb. 17, which is President's Day; Friday, March 14; Monday, March 17, Monday, March 31; and Monday, May 10 through Friday, May 23."
Asbill said the Missouri Legislature requires up to 10 missed days of school be re-scheduled before state law will forgive any additional missed days.
"That presents unique issues for the district because of the missed days," Asbill said. "We have 172 days of classes scheduled. If students miss two, three or even five more days due to weather, that limits the amount of contact we have and impacts the learning aspect of students."
Officials at the Purdy R-2 School District will meet with the board on Jan. 20 to decide what calendar adjustments are necessary.
