Exeter man killed in crash
An Exeter man was killed in a single-vehicle crash at 3:28 a.m. on Friday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Billy Ennis, 53, was a passenger in a 2008 Pontiac driven by Ricky Pritchett, 45, of Purdy. Pritchett was driving west on Highway 86, two miles east of Stark City, when he failed to negotiate a curve. The car left the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned.
Ennis was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Deputy Coroner Brian Artherton. Pritchett received moderate injuries and was taken by Barry-Lawrence Ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin for treatment. Neither Ennis nor Pritchett were wearing safety belts.
This was the first fatality of 2014 in Highway Patrol Troop D, which includes the Monett area.
* A Butterfield man was injured in a single-vehicle crash at 6:10 a.m. on Thursday on Farm Road 1090 about a mile and a half south of Monett. The crash occurred when the driver of a 1997 Ford Explorer, Jerry E. Tucker, 54, of Butterfield, lost control on a snow and ice-covered highway and traveled off the right side of the road and struck a masonry structure at a driveway. Tucker was taken to Cox Monett Hospital with moderate injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.
