Landon E. Painter
Landon E. Painter, 77, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. He was born June 25, 1936, in Kansas City, the son of the late Emil A. and Edith (Shrum) Painter.
He was a 1954 graduate of Cassville High School and was a member of the Reavisville Baptist Church. He spent his life farming.
He laid to rest his first wife, Lela Jo "Jody" Griffin in 1989. He later married Ida (Parks) Downs on March 30, 1991, and together they shared 22 years of marriage.
Survivors in include: his wife, Ida; seven children, Rick Painter and his wife, Lynda, of Aurora, John Parks, of Carthage, Scott Downs, of Diamond, Ron Downs, of Arlington, Va.; Debbie Kennedy and her husband, Rex, of Rogers, Ark., Mary Loftis and her husband, Rex, of Mt. Vernon and Jeff Downs, of Mt. Vernon; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, his sister, Bonnie Johnson preceded him in death.
