Edwin Dale Fickes, 80, of Stark City, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, in his home.

He was born Aug. 12, 1933, in Caney, Kan., the son of Charles Russell and Grace (Painter) Fickes. On Oct. 31, 1968, in Dothan, Ala., he was united in marriage to Marlene Mitchell, who survives.

Also surviving include: three daughters, Glenda Jean Single, of Houston, Texas, Pamela Faye Jarvis and her husband, Wayne, of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Sue Ann Gilbert and her husband, Dan, of Antioch, Calif.; two sons, Charles Condict, of Grass Valley, Calif., and Darrell Condict, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; one brother, Nyle Fickes and his wife, Norma, of Haysville, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were one son, Carl Edwin, and one brother, Paul Eugene.

He grew up and received his education in Kansas, graduating from Chetopa High School in Chetopa, Kan. He then graduated from Parsons Community College. He made a career of the military, retiring Feb. 8, 1978. After his retirement he moved from St. Louis to Stark City to make his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Pastor Billy Joe Gentry will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be at Altamont Cemetery in Altamont, Kan.

The family will receive friends from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton.
