Brower assumes duties as Cassville Democrat publisher

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Jacob Brower began his new duties Monday as publisher of the Cassville Democrat.

Brower, a southwest Missouri native, had served as the editor of The Daily Citizen in Searcy, Ark., since March 2010. The Citizen won more than 100 state-wide awards during his tenure as editor, including general excellence and sweepstakes -- the highest honors awarded by the Associated Press and Arkansas Press Association -- for three consecutive years.

Brower, 33, graduated from Missouri Southern State University in 2004 with a degree in communications, and graduated from McDonald County High School in 1998.

"It's not often people move away and get the opportunity to come back home, so I am very fortunate," he said. "There are many people here I know personally, and I look forward to getting to know other Barry County residents in the years to come."

Brower said he is excited about what the future holds at the Democrat.

"This market has a lot of room for growth, and seeing that we consistently produce high-quality journalism will be my top priority as publisher," he said.

Brower served as news editor at The Morning Sun in Pittsburg, Kan., from 2007 to 2010, and was sports editor of the Carthage Press from 2005 to 2007. He also worked at the Joplin Globe and Miami (Okla.) News-Record while attending college.

Brower lives in Barry County with his wife, Kara. In his free time, he enjoys visiting family in Anderson and Joplin, and cheering for the Missouri Southern Lions, Missouri Tigers and Kansas City Chiefs.

Brower can be reached by email at, or by phone at 417-235-3135, Ext. 11.
