Exeter rolls in season opener
Exeter boys basketball coach Jay Allen has been preaching to his team about the need to stay positive and work hard.
Although it's only one game into the season, the Tigers were impressive with an 88-68 victory over Galena on Nov. 26.
"Overall, I think it was a good first step for us this season," said Allen. "Our press and physical condition really took advantage of their size. Our full court press really created havoc and wore them down a bit."
Exeter senior Colten Stringer scored a game-high 31 points and Terry Cook added 21, including four 3-pointers. Blake Walker chipped in 16 points and knocked down five treys. James Kho recorded 12 points.
"Colten and Terry really set the tone early by pushing the pace and attacking the basket," noted Allen. "The great thing about this team is that they don't care who is scoring. We have seven guys that can really score the ball this season and they are just as happy to get an assist as they are to score."
The Tigers led 40-16 after the first period and 47-28 at the intermission. After three quarters Exeter held a 68-50 advantage.
"We are a different team (than last year)," said Allen. "We are in great shape and will look to push the tempo on both ends of the floor."
Exeter will be in action on Dec. 10 as the play host to Verona. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
