Cassville's Mike Schlichtman completed his first full ironman competition on Saturday, Nov. 2, taking part in the 15th annual Ironman Florida event held in Panama City Beach.

Over 2,700 athletes took part in the grueling swim, bike, and run, covering some 140 miles between start and finish.

Spain's Victor Del Corral was the overall winner, setting a new course and North American record with his 7:53:12 effort.

Schlichtman finished 547th overall in 11:03.18, and took 31st in the 50 to 54-age division. He was 648th after the opening 2.4-mile swim, but rolled into 432nd position on the 112-mile bicycle segment, his strongest of the three disciplines. Schlichtman covered the marathon, the gut wrenching running portion of the ironman, in just over 4:34.
