Southwest claims Ozark 7 title
The Southwest Lady Trojans volleyball team defeated Exeter 25-11, 25-8 in high school volleyball last week to win the Ozark 7 Conference championship.
The Lady Trojans finished with a perfect 6-0 conference record.
"The girls have really been consistent all season," said Southwest coach Steve Voyak, who is in his 11th year at Southwest. "It's one thing to talk about it, but another thing entirely to play that way game after game. It is always exciting when you can win a conference championship."
Junior middle hitter Shannon Mitchell led Southwest with 21 kills, three digs, two blocks and two aces.
Mitchell finished the regular season with 421 kills and 130 blocks to lead the team.
Senior middle hitter Montana Hendrix added six digs, four aces, three kills and two blocks. She was also 18 for 18 serving against Exeter.
Hendrix led the team with 66 aces and a 97.4 serve percentage (381 for 391). She has made her last 125 consecutive serves in the row. Hendrix had a streak of 140 earlier in the season.
Additionally, sophomore setter Jaime Shrum had 12 digs, nine assists and two aces, while junior outside hitter Kayna McNabb added 12 digs, three assists and two aces. Shrum led the team in assists with 274, while McNabb contributed 171. McNabb led the team in digs with 332, while Hendrix is second at 260.
Southwest finished the regular season with an overall record of 25-4-2.
