Southwest School Board approves purchasing athletic, activity letters
Members of the Southwest R-5 School Board approved hiring Kim Durossette as a special edication aide at their Sept. 12 meeting.
Also hired were David Ewbank and Steve Wallace as bus drivers; Anna Lowry as custodian; and Chris Branstetter, Elizabeth Harris, Ryan Holz and Sarah Sandoval as substitute teachers. Carla Peterson was employed as a substitute cook and Amanda Bowen as a substitute custodian.
The board approved purchasing one letterman's letter for athletic jackets for any student who participates an entire year and meets all criteria to be awarded a letter. The district will purchase one bar for each year a student participates and a patch for each team member when the team finishes first at each level of competition, which includes district, sectional, quarter-finals and state competition as sanctioned by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
The district will also purchase a patch for students who gain all-state recognition in an event sanctioned by MSHSAA. It will be at the board's discretion to purchase patches for activities or events not sanctioned by MSHAA for first place-performances.
The board reviewed reports concerning fall sports, school safety, in addition to regular reports from Judy Randall, elementary principal, Beverly Bonner, middle school principal; Tosha Watson, high school principal; Kara Hendrix, curriculum director; Wanda Smith, special services; Tom Lawrence, maintenance director, and Bob Walker, superintendent.
Board members also approved a contract with Mercy Hospital in Cassville for physical and occupational therapy services.
The next regular meeting of the Southwest R-5 School Board will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14 in the high school library.
