Area volleyball teams to begin district play

Area volleyball teams take the first step toward a potential state tournament berth with district play beginning on Oct. 28.

Seeds and site location have been announced.

Monett, Billings and Clever host tournaments with the most local implications.

Class 3, District 11

In the Class 3, District 11 tournament at Monett, seven teams vie for the district crown beginning on Oct. 28.

The Reeds Spring Lady Wolves (26-3-1) earned the top overall seed and earned a first round bye.

Hollister (11-10-3) was voted second.

Aurora (13-15-3) is seeded third. Seneca (12-14-2) was voted fourth. Cassville (8-13-6) secured the fifth seed. East Newton (5-12-4) earned the sixth-seed and Monett (2-17-3) is the seventh-seed.

Seneca and Cassville open the tournament on Oct. 28 at 5 p.m. The winner of the contest advances to play Reeds Spring in the first semifinal on Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.

Hollister and Monett square off in the second quarterfinal on Oct. 28. The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m.

Aurora and East Newton close out the quarterfinal round with an 8 p.m. match on Oct. 28

The winners of the Hollister-Monett and Aurora-East Newton matches advance to the second semifinal on Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

The championship game for the Class 3, District 12 tourney is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 8 p.m.

Reeds Springs is the defending district champion.

Class 2, District 11

The Class 2, District 5 volleyball tournament is hosted by Clever this year.

The Ash Grove Lady Pirates (20-7-3) and Southwest Lady Trojans (24-4-2) flew to the top of the seeding chart and are one and two respectively.

Ash Grove earned first round bye.

Crane (19-6) earned the third seed. Marionville (12-12) is seeded fourth. Purdy (9-17-1) locked down the fifth seed. Clever (10-16-1) is the sixth seed and Blue Eye (5-16-2) was selected as the seventh seed.

Marionville and Purdy open the tournament on Oct. 28 at 5 p.m. The winner of the contest advances to play Ash Grove in the first semifinal on Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.

Southwest and Blue Eye square off in the second quarterfinal on Oct. 28. The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m.

Crane and Clever close out the quarterfinal round with an 8 p.m. match on Oct. 28

The winners of the Southwest-Blue Eye and Crane-Clever matches advance to the second semifinal on Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

The championship game for the Class 2, District 11 tourney is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 8 p.m.

Clever is the defending district champion.

Class 1, District 9

The Class 1, District 9 volleyball tournament will be hosted at Billings.

Host Jasper is the top seed and receives a bye.

Pierce City (20-6) earned the top seed and received a first round bye.

Billings (14-7-3) was voted second overall. Verona (17-8-2) locked up the third seed. Wheaton (8-9-4) was seeded fourth. Hurley (14-9-3) enters the tournament as the fifth seed. Miller (6-15-1) is the sixth seed and Exeter (3-17-2) is the seventh seed.

Wheaton and Hurley open the tournament on Oct. 28 at 5 p.m. The winner of the contest advances to play Pierce City in the first semifinal on Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.

Billings and Exeter square off in the second quarterfinal on Oct. 28. The game is slated for 6:15 p.m.

Verona and Miller close out the quarterfinal round with a 7:30 p.m. match on Oct. 28

The winners of the Billings-Exeter and Verona-Miller contests advance to the second semifinal on Oct. 29 at 6:15 p.m.

The championship game for the Class 1, District tourney is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Pierce City won the Class 1, District 9 tourney last year.
