Roy Olen Hare
Roy Olen Hare, 94, of Monett, Mo., passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, in Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett.
He was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Ferris, Texas, the son of William and Laura (Richardson) Hare. He married Jean Elizabeth Redman in Long Beach, Calif., in 1944. They had three sons, Loyd, David and Richard. Jean died in 1969 from cancer. In 1970, he was united in marriage to Marilyn (Corner) Lawson, who preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 1998. Also preceding him in death were his parents and one son, David Michael Hare.
Survivors include: two sons, Richard Hare, of Garland, Texas, and Loyd Hare, of Lubbock, Texas; one stepson, Greg Lawson, of League City, Texas; one stepdaughter, Barbara Cowherd and her husband, Gene, of Purdy, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Roy grew up and received his education in Texas. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and retired as Chief Petty Officer in 1964. He served as an aircraft avionics technician during his Navy career. After retiring from the Navy, he worked in civil service as an aircraft electronics technician in Corpus Christi, Texas. He moved to Granby, Missouri, and preached at the Church of Christ there during the early 1970s. He then moved to Tulsa, Okla., where he worked as a senior inspector at the Gould Electronics plant as well as preached at the Catoosa Church of Christ. In the early 1990s, he returned to Corpus Christi for several years prior to returning to Missouri and eventually settling in Monett, Mo., in 1998. He attended Monett Church of Christ and was a retired Church of Christ minister. Roy had been very active in the Monett Senior Center.
Graveside services with military honors were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, in Union Cemetery, Stella, Mo., under direction of McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton, Mo. Rick Hendrix conducted the services.
