Festival weekend offers something for everyone

The Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its 2013 Fall Festival and Chili and Salsa Cook-Off, which will be held on the downtown square in Cassville on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The theme for this year's event is "Hillbilly Chili Bash." Vendors and chili and salsa cook-off participants are encouraged to decorate their booth space with hillbilly memorabilia.

The event offers live music, craft booths, chili and salsa tasting, live entertainment, a pet parade, food vendors and more. Booths open at 8 a.m.

A number of awards will be up for grabs at this year's Fall Festival. Community members who purchase taste testing kits will help determine the winners of the people's choice chili, people's choice salsa, best decorated booth and most spirited booth awards. Each winner will receive a $25 prize.

The top four chili and salsa winners will receive the following cash prizes: $150 for first place; $100 for second place; $75 for third place; and $50 for fourth place.

Vendors and chili and salsa cook-off participants can obtain an application and a list of cook-off rules at the Cassville Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street in Cassville.

Applications and rules will also be available online at www.cassville.com or can be requested by emailing Artherton at chamber@cassville.com.

Chamber members can begin reserving booth space this week. Non-chamber members can begin reserving space on Monday, Sept. 9.

Booth space will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. The fee is $40 per booth. An additional $10 fee will be charged for electric. The deadline to register for the event is Oct. 15.

Other events are also scheduled for the Fall Festival weekend.

The Show, which runs on Thursday Oct. 24, Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27, at the new FEMA and Event Center at the Cassville Elementary School campus and will feature HomeTown Sound and the RedHots, along with other local talent.

Concessions will be provided by Project Graduation.

Friday and Saturday shows start at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday show starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are $6 in advance or $8 at the door. Children age 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Table seats are available at a cost of $15 per person. Each table seats six to eight people.

Tickets are available at the Cassville Chamber of Commerce Office and area banks.

A Wild Area Hike is slated to take place at Roaring River State Park on Saturday, Oct. 26. Outdoor enthusiasts will have the opportunity to enjoy a four-mile hike through Roaring River Hills Wild Area. Participants will enjoy a hike through a portion of the 2,075-acre wild area during the height of fall colors.

Those attending are asked to wear comfortable hiking shoes and take water and a sack lunch or snack. Hikers will also tour a portion of Roaring River Cove Hardwood Natural Area. The hike gets underway at 9 a.m.

On Saturday, the Cassville Fire Protection District will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 6:30 to 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Pancakes will be served for a donation.

The Cassville YMCA 5K and one mile fun run starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Family Life Center parking lot. For more information, call Dove Haney at 846-1535.
