Several injured in recent wrecks

Ten people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Farm Road 1090, about three miles north of Purdy.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred when the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, Darren M. Prater, 41, of Purdy, turned onto an intersecting roadway and into oncoming lanes where it struck a 2012 Dodge Avenger, driven by Rodolfo Vargas, 22, of Verona, head-on.

Seven people in the Prater vehicle, including the driver, were injured. They were: Carolyn Prater, 40; Kylee R. Prater, 9; Jayden M. Scott, 5; David J. White, 11; Bryson J. Wilderbuer, 12, and Hannah C. White, 14, all of Purdy. The children were wearing seatbelts but the adults were not.

Those injured in the Vargas vehicle included the driver, Rodolfo Vargas; Jennifer N. Russell, 20, of Verona; and Lance C. Breeding, 22, of Monett. Vargas and Russell were wearing seat belts, but Breeding was not.

All victims were taken by ambulance to Cox Monett Hospital with minor injuries.

Other crashes

* Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Farm Road 2180 about three miles east of Cassville. The crash occurred when the driver of a 1995 Buick Skylark, Bonnie C. Cape, 18, of Cassville, failed to stop at a stop sign and traveled into the path of a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Donnie D. Moczygemba, 44, of Cassville. Cape and a passenger in the vehicle, Susie L. Cape, 44, of Cassville, were taken to Cox Hospital South in Springfield with serious and minor injuries, respectively. Neither was wearing a seat belt. Moczygemba was wearing a seat belt.

* A Cassville woman was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash at 4 p.m. on Oct. 2 on Highway 39 about two miles south of Aurora. The crash occurred when the driver of a 2003 Ford Ranger, Charolett L. Thomas, 64, of Cassville, ran off the roadway, struck a ditch, overturned and hit a utility pole. Thomas was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt.

* An Exeter woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 on Highway 76 about a half mile east of Exeter. The crash occurred when the driver of a 2003 Dodge pickup, Melvin Hines, 90, of Cassville, attempted to make a left turn into the path of a 1997 Honda Accord, driven by Jessica M. Maloney, 31, of Exeter. Maloney was taken by ambulance to Cox Hospital South in Springfield with minor injuries. Hines was wearing a seat belt, but Maloney was not.
