Cassville 'Cats freshmen fall to Carl Junction
Cassville's freshmen football squad hosted Carl Junction on Monday, Sept. 30, hoping to build on their convincing win over Bolivar a week earlier.
The Bulldogs, however, had other intentions and after the dust settled Carl Junction had earned a 32-18 victory.
After a Bulldog touchdown to open the scoring, Kyle Ruark returned the ensuing kickoff for a Wildcat touchdown to even the score 6-6.
Carl Junction would add one more first half touchdown to take a 12-6 lead into the halftime break.
The third quarter saw the Cats and Dogs trade punches with each scoring a touchdown in the stanza.
Cassville's touchdown came on a tough run from RJ Elliot. After three periods, CJ led 18-12.
However, the fourth quarter belonged almost entirely to the visitors and they extended the lead to 32-12 with just minutes to play.
A last minute touchdown pass from River Phelps to Troy Rose would close out the scoring for the Wildcats.
"I really feel like we took a huge step forward last week as far as effort and execution," said coach Jay Rogers. "Unfortunately, we may have taken a step back this week. I really feel like this team has the ability to be pretty good. We just need to be more consistent in our execution, and learn to play with great intensity each week."
