James Marshall "Jim" Echols, III

James Marshall "Jim" Echols, III, 79, of Shell Knob, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013.

He was born Aug. 13, 1934, in Marshall, the son of James Marshall Echols, Jr., and Lillie Pauline (Smith) Echols. On July 14, 1968, in Nettleton, he was united in marriage to Velma Pauline Pilant, who survives.

Also surviving are: four sons, Michael Eugene Echols and his wife, Monika, of Plato, Paul Craig Echols and his wife, Dena, of Purdy, William Marion Echols, Sr., and his wife, Donna, of London Mills, Ill., and Daniel David Echols and his wife, Cherie, of Commerce City, Colo.; two daughters, Laura Lynn Ciancio, of Brighton, Colo., and Kimberly Annette McLallen and her husband, JJ, of Thornton, Colo.; one sister, Marilyn Sue Pilant and her husband, Bob, of Independence; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, William Paul "Bill" Echols; one granddaughter, Diane Marie Vergara; and a son-in-law, Thomas Ciancio.

He graduated from high school in Boulder, Colo., and received his bachelor's degree in education. He received his master's degree in Theology from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar. Much of his life was spent in Colorado, moving from Denver to Shell Knob in 2005. For 42 years, he was a Southern Baptist Minister. He was a member of Grace Community Fellowship Church where services were held Tuesday under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Joe Evans conducted the services.
