Haven to host rummage sale fundraiser

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary will host a fundraising rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 5 at the VFW Post #2203, located on Highway 39 in Shell Knob.

This is one of the not-for-profit organization's largest fundraiser of the year and will help support over 150 animals at the no-kill shelter, located at 9617 Farm Road 2190 near Cassville.

"This is one of the biggest fundraisers we host all year," said Harriet Rhea, a volunteer at the Haven. "We collect items all year long for this event."

Those wishing to donate items to the shelter can drop them off between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Tuesday, Oct. 1 through Thursday, Oct. 3. Large ticket items, such as boats or campers, may be sold on consignment, with the Haven retaining 10 percent of the proceeds from each sale to benefit the organization.

Items requested for donation include knick-knacks, small working appliances, toys, housewares, furniture, tools and blue jeans.

"We are requesting clean and working items only," Rhea said.

This year, chances to win a queen size quilt, made by Betty Jo Jackson, will be offered at a $1 per ticket or $5 for six. Tickets will be available the day of the rummage sale. The drawing will be held at noon on Saturday.

"This is a beautiful quilt," said Willa Wulz, one of the event organizers. "It features an eagle on the front."

The ladies of VFW Post #2203 will be serving breakfast and lunch items on Friday, Oct. 4.
