Calling all super heroes

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

Apexnetwork Physical Therapy, in conjunction with Monett/Purdy Habitat for Humanity, will be hosting Heroes for Habitat 5K run/walk on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the old YMCA located on Euclid Avenue in Monett.

"Apex wanted to bring something fun and exciting to the community and bring awareness to a worthy cause," said Ivy Morgan, marketing coordinator for Apex Network.

"This is our first community outreach since opening in the Monett area. A 5K seemed like the perfect event to promote wellness and Habitat for Humanity."

Apexnetwork Physical Therapy has been working in Monet for six years, serving area factories and personal wellness needs of the community. Apex strives for a personal touch, having only one therapist on staff allowing for comfort and understanding with its clients.

Monett/Purdy Habitat for Humanity began in 2003, with ground breaking on the first home in 2004. Habitat is averaging a house built every year and five months, with the latest development to be ready in the fall of 2013.

"Habitat is grateful to the community for all its support and we are always looking for leaders to bring fresh ideas to the board of directors," said Linda Schelin, past committee chair, president, treasurer and current volunteer.

Monett/Purdy Habitat for Humanity has a monthly meeting located at 113 East Nellie Ave. Meetings start at 8 a.m. and lunch is provided. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 123, Monett, MO 65708.

Participants of the race are encouraged to dress as their favorite super hero. Registration before Oct. 18 is $15, which includes a T-shirt and goodie bag for ages 10 and older. Registration after Oct. 18 will be $20. All participants under the age of 10 are free, but will not receive a T-shirt or goodie bag.

The race will start on Euclid Avenue, by the old YMCA, winding through streets to the north. Awards will be given to the top two male/female finishers in several age groups. Participants are encouraged to come in groups of five or more. Awards will also be given to the largest group as well as the most creatively dressed group.

Sponsorship slots are still available for area businesses. Levels include: super hero, sidekick, crusader and friends of heroes.
