Cassville and Monett to recognize rivalry

Monday, September 30, 2013

The football rivalry between Cassville and Monett plays second fiddle to no one. After assuming many different names, some unsuitable for print, each school has decided to name the game the "Barry County Brawl."

Monett and Cassville High School have announced the beginning of new tradition between the two schools: the exchange of the Barry County Brawl Trophy.

The trophy will be presented to the game's winner and displayed at the winning high school until the next year's football game.

"I think it's a great way to promote school spirit in a positive way," said Monett athletic director Daryl Bradley. "The rivalry is at a healthy stage and both schools thought this would be a good idea."

This rivalry has grown significantly in recent years.

"The kids know each other. They have played against each other all their life," said Cassville athletic director David Large. "Parents from both schools work together and this is a way to involve everyone."

The annual brawl is set for Friday, Oct. 4. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
