Diabetes education program on tap at Mercy Hospital

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

A diabetes management class will be presented at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 at Mercy Clinic, located at 94 Main St. in Cassville.

Owen Medd will deliver the one-hour educational program to share his personal experiences with diabetes and taking insulin to control blood sugar.

Medd is a specially trained member of the A1C Champions program and will discuss his overall diabetes management plan, exercise and diet. He will discuss misconceptions about insulin and why it can help achieve blood sugar control.

Diabetes is a chronic, widespread condition characterized by high blood sugar in which the body does not produce or utilize insulin, a hormone needed to transport glucose into the blood cells for energy.

A1C Champions is supported by Sanofi US, which provides a patient-led approach to diabetes education.
