R-4 board fills vacancies, approves tax levy

Members of the Cassville school board hired a number of individuals to fill classroom and staffing vacancies during regular meetings in August and September.
In August, board members approved hiring Jaqulyn Kennedy as a special education instructional assistant for the 2013-14 academic year.
At that meeting, the board also set the annual tax levy at $3.35 per $100 assessed valuation. Total valuation for real and personal property totaled $160,428,668. The levy should generate about $5.3 million for the school district, although Superintendent Richard Asbill said collection rates only total about 90 percent each year.

In September, the board approved a physical and occupational therapy service contract with Mercy Hospital in Cassville.
In other action, the board approved:
* Lisa Burton as a part time cook and Maria Carmen Ortega as an English Language Learning/Migrant instructional assistant.
* Purchase of the stage curtain, stage, light and audio systems proposals for the district's FEMA and Event Center, located at the elementary school campus.
* Seeking bids for the high school circle drive renovations.
The next regular meeting of the Cassville R-4 School Board will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 at the district's central office.
