Verona man dead following wreck

A Verona man is dead following a two-vehicle crash at 11:10 p.m. Saturday on Highway RA about three miles south of Golden.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred when the driver of a 2006 Polaris Predator 500 all terrain vehicle, Rickie L. Fleetwood, 45, of Verona, made a U-turn in front of a 1976 Toyota pickup, driven by Derrick W. Turley, 17, of Berryville, Ark., and was struck head on. Turley was wearing a seat belt.

Fleetwood was pronounced dead at the scene by Charlie McManus, deputy Barry County coroner. Fleetwood was not wearing safety equipment. The body was taken to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

This is Troop D's 81st fatality for the year.

Other crashes

A Galena man was injured in a single-vehicle crash at 1 p.m. Tuesday on County Road 2240 about five miles east of Aurora. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred when the driver of a loaded 1997 Ford F-150, James L. Barker, 53, of Galena, abandoned the vehicle while it was in motion when the hay caught fire. The vehicle then went through a fence. Barker was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with moderate injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.
