Shakin' in the Shell is just around the corner

The eighth annual Shakin' in the Shell festival is set to begin with a patriotic program at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 on Needles Eye Road in Shell Knob. Admission is $1 for adults. Children are admitted free of charge.
Illinois Slim will perform near the entrance gate during the day-long event.
The 24th annual Classic and Custom Car Show will start at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. Pre-registration may be made through the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce at 417-858-3300. Awards will be presented at 3 p.m. A number of vintage tractors will also be on display this year.
The Shakin' in the Shell Family Fun Area will open at 10 a.m. and have a variety of activities for kids.
There will be a free treasure hunt in the sand pile at 1 p.m.
New events this year include laser tag at 4 p.m., a climbing wall and a dunk tank.
A record number of vendors and crafters have reserved spaces for this year's event. In addition, the V.F.W. Post #2203 will serve breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m.
Registration for the Ugly Dog Contest, sponsored by Haven of the Ozarks, will begin at 10 a.m. with a number of prizes offered to this year's contestants. The show gets underway at 11:30 a.m.
Prizes include: gift certificates from Fall Creek Steak House; Whippersnappers; Burger Shack; Great American Chicken Plantation Restaurant and the Baldknobbers Restaurant in Branson; Tomblin's Jewelry; Flat Creek Express and the BBQ Station in Cassville; Nonna's Nummies, Pat Manley's Treats, Country Fresh Market; Williams Brothers Sports and Ski; Icy Mae's; Steak Inn; Wee Flea Dog Treats, and Trish Patton, from Keller Williams, is donating a hat from Icy Mae's Gift Shop in Shell Knob.
Pet adoptions will also be available at the booth during the festival.
For convenience, golf carts will transport attendees from the parking area directly to the entrance of the festival.
The Discovery Quilters of Shell Knob will also present their biannual quilt show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Saturday, Sept. 21 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Shell Knob Elementary School, located at 24400 State Hwy 39 in Shell Knob.
Guild members will display a variety of quilts, large and small. Two area vendors will also share favorite fabrics and quilting items. The event will also feature a boutique of unique hand-crafted items.
Demonstrations will be presented on Saturday morning. The first will cover landscape quilts, and the second will exhibit back-basting appliqué.
Guild members will hold a bed turning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
A miniature quilt auction is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, with proceeds being donated to a local charity.
A total of 13 special baby quilts will be available through silent auction or "buy it now" process. Door prizes will be awarded.
Admission is $3 for both days.
