Area teams prepare for Volleyfest
Southwest High School's 30th annual "Volleyfest" volleyball tournament is set to begin on Saturday, Sept. 22.
Under the direction of Lady Trojans coach Steve Voyak, the volleyball tournament has grown into one of the area's premier competitions.
In the last decade, the tournament has grown from a five-team, one gym event into a 12-team, two-state, three court, two-gym spectacular.
Slated to attend this year's event are: Farmington, Ark., Gentry, Ark., Southwest, Verona, Cassville, Forsyth, Huntsville, Ark., Wheaton, Blue Eye, Crane, Pea Ridge, Ark., and Lincoln, Ark.
The 12-teams will be divided into three pools (Black, Red and White).
In pool play, each team begins play with a 3-3 score and the game ends when the first team reaches 25.
Following the completion of pool play, the teams will be seeded 1 through 4 in each pool and then 5 through 12. The three pool winners, plus the top second place team will advance to the semifinals.
After the semifinals, the two winners will play in the championship and the two losers will play in the third-place game. Teams seeded 5-through 12 will each play an additional match for fifth, seventh, ninth and 11th place.
Pool play is set to begin at 9:15 a.m, with bracketed play scheduled for 2:30 p.m. All bracket play is best-of-three sets with no cap.
