Zombie Fest continues

The Cassville Branch Library will host Zombie Fest at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the library. Snacks, door prizes and the showing of the first part of the second season of a popular television series. For more information, call 847-2121.

Cassville Cruisers plan event

The Cassville Cruisers will hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Papa Vito's, located at 802 E. Highway 248 in Cassville. Car enthusiasts are invited to attend.

Code Yellow

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks has issued a Code Yellow, indicating some blood reserves are in short supply. A blood drive is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, at Mercy Hospital, 94 Main St. in Cassville.

Demolition Derby scheduled

The Cassville Rotary Club will hold its 11th annual Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Bill Hailey Rodeo Arena in Cassville. Classes include modified old iron 1980 and up; stock 1980 and newer; and compact. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children age 6 to 12. Children under the age of 6 are admitted free. First Friday Coffee scheduled

First Friday Coffee will be held from 8 to 8:45 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 at Towneley Furnishings, located at 613 Main St. in Cassville.

Senior Fair planned

The OACAC 2013 Senior Fair will be held at the Crowder College Cassville Campus Community Center from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 20. Seniors can find information on various service agencies including assisted living, in-home health care, pre-arranged funeral plans, local medical supply vendors and nutrition and more. Vision, hearing and dental screenings are planned.

Shakin' in the Shell fest slated

The 8th annual Shakin' in the Shell Festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Chamber Park in Shell Knob. The festival will feature a classic car show, food fair, craft and business vendors, a children's area and inflatable toys. Also on tap are an ugly dog contest and a beer garden. Home school art program

Solid Waste Management meeting

The Southwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District N will hold an executive board meeting at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at All Points Recycling, located at 800 W. 10th St. in Cassville. Tours of the facility will be provided. Lunch will be served at a cost of $5 per person. Train ride to Van Buren, Ark., slated

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce is planning a train ride to Van Buren, Ark., in observance of Arts and Crafts Days on Saturday, Oct. 12. The all-day trip includes a trip through the Boston Mountains over rivers and three trestles and through the Winslow Tunnel for shopping in Van Buren. SONbeam enrollment underway

SONbeam Preschool, at the United Methodist Church in Cassville, is accepting enrollment for Tuesday and Thursday classes. Children must be three years old by Aug. 1. The Mineral Springs Road District will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, at the the district oad barn. The tentative agenda includes reading of the minutes, treasurer's report, update on road conditions and new business.

Purdy teen book club begins

The Purdy Branch Library is offering a new book club for teens at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the library. The first book, The Absolute True Story of a Part-Time INdian, by Sherman Alexie will be discussed. An adult book club will also begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the library. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Sloot, will be discussed. The annual preschool story time is back. Children ages 3-5 are invited to join the program, which gets underway on Sept. 4.
