Bernice "Bunny" Carney
Bernice "Bunny" Carney, 91, of Cassville, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at the Cassville Health Care & Rehab Center in Cassville.
She was born on Feb. 22, 1922, daughter of Feliks and Agnes (Adamski) Szymborski, in Carteret, N.J. She grew up in New Jersey and following high school graduation she attended technical schools and obtained certification as a cosmetologist and nursing assistant. She was united in marriage to Richard "Sarge" Carney on Feb. 14, 1945, in Denver, Colo. The family moved to Cassville in June of 1965. Bunny and Sarge owned and operated the boat concession and ice house and later the laundromat, all at Roaring River State Park. She volunteered with the Second Act Thrift Store and the United Methodist Church Food Pantry. She was a past president and current member of the General Federation of Women's Silver Leaf Benefit Club, and she was a member of the Seven Valleys Extension Club and the Irwin-Easley American Legion Post #118 Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Cassville.
Survivors include: her husband, Richard A. Carney, of Cassville; three daughters, Sandi Carney Wadsworth and her husband, Roger, of Kent, England, Ret. Navy Commander Susan Carney and her husband, Philip Flemming, of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Sharon Carney Witter, of Springfield, Va.; two granddaughters; and one sister, Pauline Kowaleski.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Adam Szymborski, Alexander Szymborski, Joseph Szymborski, John Szymborski, Stanley Szymborski, Charles Szymborski, and Henry Szymborski, and two sisters, Agnes Barrett and Helen Aleszczyk.
Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Cassville, with Rev. Paul McLoughlin, Celebrant. The cremains will be interred at the Springfield National Cemetery.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of White Funeral Home & Crematory, Cassville.
