Train ride to Van Buren, Ark., slated

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce is planning a train ride to Van Buren, Ark., in observance of Arts and Crafts Days on Saturday, Oct. 12. The all-day trip includes a trip through the Boston Mountains over rivers and three trestles and through the Winslow Tunnel for shopping in Van Buren. Demolition Derby rescheduled

The Cassville Rotary Club will hold its 11th annual Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Bill Hailey Rodeo Arena in Cassville. Classes include modified old iron 1980 and up; stock 1980 and newer; and compact. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children age 6 to 12. Children under the age of 6 are admitted free. Genealogical Society to meet

The Barry County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, at the Barry County Museum, located on Highway 112, south of Cassville. Merle Rogers, guest speaker and former naturalist at Roar- ing River State Park, will discuss geographical changes and other aspects of the area. Members and interested parties are invited to attend.

Beekeepers to meet

The Southern Missouri Beekeepers of Monett will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at the First United Methodist Church, located at 1600 North Central Ave. in Monett. A pot luck dinner will be served before the honey extraction demonstration from two separate hives. Anyone interested in beekeeping is urged to attend. Vendors, crafters needed

The Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce is seeking quality art and craft vendors for the 2013 Shakin' in the Shell festival, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. Booth spaces are 10x10 at a cost of $35. Last year, there were between 8,000 to 10,000 individuals in attendance at the annual event, sponsored by the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce. Senior Fair planned

The OACAC 2013 Senior Fair will be held at the Crowder College Cassville Campus Community Center from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 20. Seniors can find information on various service agencies including assisted living, in-home health care, pre-arranged funeral plans, local medical supply vendors, nutrition and more. Vision, hearing and dental screenings are planned.

Shakin' in the Shell fest slated

The 8th annual Shakin' in the Shell Festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Chamber Park in Shell Knob. The festival will feature a classic car show, food fair, craft and business vendors, a children's area and inflatable toys. Also on tap are an ugly dog contest and a beer garden. Truck and Tractor Pull planned

Seligman Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its Truck and Tractor Pull at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Ru- by's Event Park on Highway 37 south of Seligman. Spring River rules apply. Admission is $10 for adults. Children 12 and under will be free. Those attending are urged to take lawn chairs for comfort. Some bleacher seating and concessions are available. Enjoy the excitement. Fundraiser to benefit CHS Show Choir

Freedom Bank, Rameys Market, D. Carr and Shelter Insurance will host a fundraiser for Cassville High School Show Choir from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16 on the parking lot at Freedom Bank, located at 97 Main St. in Cassville. The $5 sack lunch will include a hot dog, chips, snack cake and water. Donations are appreciated.

Home school art program

The Eagle Rock Branch Library will be holding its Home School Art Program this fall. This will be a 16 session program with loads of artistic fun. Classes will begin at 10 a.m. on Sept. 19. For more information or to register, call Jennifer at 417-271-3186.

Library closing

All branches of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.

Hot Diggity Dog dance planned

Seligman Chamber will have a Hot Diggety Dog Dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Seligman Chamber Event Center, located on north Highway 37. Free hot dogs will be provided by the Chamber. Attendees are asked to take a side dish. Admission is $4 per person, with teens admitted free of charge. No alcohol or smoking allowed.
