Patricia Ann DeHamer

Thursday, August 15, 2013

Patricia Ann DeHamer, 73, went to be with her Savior on August 11th, 2013. Patty was born in Fairview, Missouri, on October 16th, 1939, to Elmer and Violet (Whittington) Graber. She spent most of her childhood in Verona and was a Class of 1957 graduate. As an adult, she was a long-time resident of Aurora but also called Wheaton home.

Patty was united in marriage to Vernon DeHamer on June 3rd, 1978, and they recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Her only child, Rex Tucker, preceded her in death on June 30th, 2013.

As a teenager, Patty accepted the Lord as her Savior during a revival at Liberty Methodist Church, near Monett and the home church of her oldest sister, Mary Evelyn Bailey. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wheaton and during recent years, attended the Aurora Baptist Temple when possible.

Patty started her career as a line typesetter for the Cassville Democrat and continued that skill with The Wheaton Journal for 14 years. In 1974, she joined the business office of Cox Monett Hospital and retired 22 years later in 1996. Patty became an active member of the Aurora Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, earning a 4,000 hour-volunteer service pin. She greatly enjoyed her Auxiliary friends and activities and kept her hands busy crafting items for their gift shop.

Patty's greatest treasures were her family and friends. She never tired of visiting with or talking about her nieces, nephews and grandkids and she always remembered to send birthday and anniversary wishes. She also enjoyed country music shows, reading, collecting dishes and "beanie babies."

Patty is survived by her loving husband, Vernon, of their home in Aurora; her sister, Kathleen Payne, of Smithton, Mo.; grandsons, Michael Tucker, of Neosho and James Dillon Tucker, of Mt. Vernon; great-grand- daughters, Aubrey and Raelynn; and nieces, nephews and many more family and friends who loved her dearly.

In addition to her parents and son, Patty was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Evelyn Bailey and Jaunita Weldy.

Funeral services are under the direction of Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home.

Memorial services were held today (Wednesday) Aug. 14. Burial will be at Lee Cemetery, Verona, at a later date. Donations may be made through the funeral home to the Aurora Mercy Hospital Auxiliary or Lee Cemetery.

The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate and professional care teams at Cox South and Meyer Orthopedic and Rehab Center, who lovingly attended to Patty during her illness.
