OACAC hosts school readiness Fair
The Barry County OACAC Neighborhood Center hosted a school readiness fair for over 150 students on Thursday, Aug. 8.
OACAC employees and a host of volunteers gathered to present families information about a plethora of topics, including bullying, when to call 911, Cassville Area YMCA after school programs, nutrition and more from 24 vendors attending the event.
Students had the opportunity to join either Boy Scout or Girl Scout programs for re-duced fees during the readiness fair. They also participated in dental and vision screenings and received free haircuts from volunteer employees manning the Electric Beach booth.
Students attending the readiness fair received backpacks filled with school supplies and other goodies to start off the 2013-14 school year.
Vendors participating in this year's event included: Lions Club, vision screening; Barry County Library, free books; Access Family Care, dental screenings; University of Missouri Extension, nutrition information; YMCA, after school programs; Cassville United Methodist Church, shoes; Barry County Sheriff's Office, drug information; MPACT, resource information for those with special needs children; CoxHealth Clinic, sugar and obesity information; Crowder College, classes and programs offered; Girl Scouts, discounted memberships. Other vendors included: Mercy Hospital, Boy Scouts, Barry Electric Coopera-tive, Dr. Hunter, the Mane Station, Jan's Hairtrax, Electric Beach, OACAC Neighborhood Center, the Family Life Center, and Barry County E-911.
