Officials with the Barry County Sheriff's Office are seeking information on the person or persons responsible for two recent car thefts in the Purdy area.

Barry County Chief Deputy Leonard Collins reported a 2008 Ford pickup had been stolen from the Purdy area at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 28.

Russ Nichols, a reserve deputy for the Barry County Sheriff's Office, encountered the stolen vehicle and initiated a pursuit in the area of Farm Roads 1085 and 2090.

The suspects fled the scene in the vehicle and abandoned it at a railroad crossing on Farm Road 2090, fleeing the vehicle and leaving it to roll backward into the front of the patrol vehicle driven by Nichols, who did not initiate a foot pursuit.

The patrol vehicle sustained minor damage, according to Collins.

The second vehicle, a 2008 Mazda, was stolen from the Purdy area sometime between Sunday, July 28 and Monday, July 29, when it was reported missing at 7 a.m.

That vehicle was later recovered by Purdy Police Chief Jackie Lowe near Seventh Street in Purdy.

Collins said sheriff's investigators believe the incidents may be related and are seeking information on both incidents.
