Block party planned for area students
School is just around the corner for Barry County students, and the Cassville Ministerial Alliance will host a Back-to-School Block Party as a last chance for fun before the start of the school year.
The fun will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10 on the campuses of the Cassville United Methodist Church and the Cassville First Baptist Church off the Southwest corner of the Cassville Square and will continue until early afternoon.
Lunch will be provided, as well as several forms of entertainment. The Emmanuel Baptist Church Praise Band will entertain and the Cassville YMCA has donated the use of four bouncy houses. In addition, the Family Life Center will be open for the use of their facilities.
Free haircuts will also be available for school-age children. Cuts will be provided by Kelsey Fields and Janet Turner.
The United Methodist Church will hold its second annual shoe give-away during the block party. Shoes will be given to students who qualified and signed up through OACAC earlier this summer.
Last year more than 200 pairs of shoes were given to deserving students.
The OACAC Back-to-School Fair is scheduled for Aug. 8 at the Cassville Crowder Campus.
The free event is hosted by the Cassville Ministerial Alliance. All school-age children and their families are invited to attend.
