First Berry Pie Contest slated

Area residents should get ready for some lip-smackin' fun.

The Cassville Market on the Square is hosting its first Berry Pie Contest, start- ing at 8 a.m. on Aug. 10 at the Edmonson Building, located at 613 Main St. in Cassville.

The contest is open to anyone, but restrictions do apply. Pies must be made of berries and no other fruit. Pies must also be baked in an aluminum foil pan, with the entrant's name, address and contact information printed on an index card.

Those wishing to participate in the event must register by Aug. 6. Registrations will be accepted at Garden Sass Market on Tuesday, or at the Farmer's Market on the Square on also be accepted via phone, at 501-317-9065.

Pies must be turned in no later than 8 a.m. on Aug. 10.

Judging will take place in both youth and adult divisions. Ribbons will be awarded for the best single berry pie; best mixed berry pie, and best crust. A trophy will be awarded for the best champion pie.

Following the judging, pies will be auctioned, with proceeds to benefit the Bar- ry County Meals on Wheels program,

Winners will be announced at 11 a.m. on the courthouse steps.

The event is hosted by the Garden Sass Farmer's Market Association.
