Time to immunize

Wednesday, July 24, 2013

Officials with the Barry County Health Department would like to remind parents to make sure their children are up-to-date on immunizations before classes resume in August.

Missouri law requires children in pre-school through grade 12 receive immunizations and boosters to protect against vaccine-preventable diseases. Immunizations not only protect children, but teachers, staff and the community as a whole.

Student immunization records must be presented at school. State regulations specify an individual cannot attend classes until all required immunizations are cur-

rent.Children in kindergarten must have the following immunizations or boosters:

* Dtap -- diptheria, tetanus and pertussis

* Polio

* Hepatitis B

* MMR -- measles, mumps, rubella, and * Varicella -- chickenpox.

Children entering the eighth grade are required to have a Dtap booster.

Parents who do not have insurance can have their child's vaccinations administered at the Barry County Health Department at either the Cassville or Monett offices. For more information, call the Cassville office at 847-2114 or the Monett office at 354-8686.
