The Swadley family admitted that they weren't sure how many racers would attend the inaugural running of the "Fun for Angie Memorial 5K" at Purdy on July 20.

Great weather and a good cause permitted 83 area runners the opportunity to race around the peaceful city.

"We didn't know if we would have 20 runners or 60," said Jeff Swadley. "We are so thankful that so many people showed up in support of this event."

The 5K was named after Jeff's wife, Angie Swadley who passed away earlier this year.

Jeff Swadley stated his family has always believed in their faith, family and the community. Jeff and Angie were committed to students attaining a good education persuing their dreams.

With these ideas serving as the backbone the proceeds from the event were used to fund the "Angie Swadley Memorial Scholarship."

The top three placers in the male and female divisions were awarded medals.

The winners were as follows:

* Allison Pettit, 21:15, first.

* Rachael Neill, 26:02, second.

* Maria Robles, 27:58, third.

* Scott Pettit, 22:40, first.

* Ron Stafford, 22:56, second.

* Mike Blinzer, 23:29, third.
