Lowell B. Gilje
Lowell B. Gilje, 68, of Exeter, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at his home. He was born on May 14, 1945, in Rolette, N. D., son of Lawrence and Delores (Houim) Gilje. On May 29, 1964, he was married to Darlene Thompson, and she survives.
Early in their marriage, Lowell and Darlene began a ministry in missions. In 1966, they entered Oak Hills Bible School in Minnesota, and later moved to Papua, New Guinea. Next, they lived in Ambunti. Later, returning to the United States, they served on staff at New Tribes Language School in Camdenton. From 1985 to 1995, they lived in North Dakota, and then moved back to Missouri,
eventually to Exeter, where they have lived for the past six years.
Additional survivors include: three daughters, Carrie Stamper, of Linn Creek, Carla Adams, of Cassville, and Cathy Bauer, of Minneapolis, Minn.; five grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Strand; and his step-father, Harry Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Gilje, his mother, Delores Johnson, his brother, Larry Gilje, and a grandson.
Memorial services were held today (Wednesday) at the White Funeral Home, Cassville, with First Baptist Church Associate Pastor Leland May officiating.
