Jaycees Carnival to open July 17
One of Monett's oldest summer traditions, the annual Jaycees Carnival, begins on Wednesday, July 17 and runs through Saturday, July 20. Rides and games will again be offered at the South Park soccer fields, off Waldensian Road.
Carnival hours will be 6:30 to 10 p.m. nightly. Discounted tickets are available at Top Hat Cleaners.
According to Amanda Stokes, project manager, this year the Junior Jaycees will run the dunk tank, face painting and a photo booth to raise money for an official Junior Jaycees charter. A new national program, Junior Jaycees is for young people ages 7 through 17 who want to make a positive change in their community.
On opening night, July 17, the Jaycees will host a car (bike, truck etc.) cruise in the parking lot between the two soccer fields.
"Anyone with a vehicle they would like to show off is welcome," Stokes said.
All of the favorite carnival rides, such as the bus, boat ride, rockets, merry-go-round and Farris Wheel, will be back. Games will include a water gun shoot for prizes, a softball milk can toss, darts, Weber's Folly and the duck pond.
Concessions will include burgers, drinks, funnel cakes and cotton candy. Oakley encouraged families to make a night of it.
"We are really excited for the 83rd annual Jaycee Carnival," Stokes said. "There was a setback with the theft of the power cords, but we were able to raise some money at the Wired for Zumba event a few weeks ago. We were able to overcome that hurdle, and hope to have our best year ever!"
Stokes expressed appreciation to carnival sponsors for making the event possible. Several sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, call Stokes at 417-872-8053 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
"It takes a lot of people to make this event work. If you are interested in volunteering at the carnival, let us know," Stokes added.
