Parking lot renovations are underway at the Southwest R-5 School District. Superintendent Bob Walker said existing parking lots for middle school and elementary, as well as child drop-off areas and faculty parking, will be paved. "We are obviously built on a hillside, and that brings erosion problems," Walker said. "A permanent surface will help with drainage, as well as increase the capacity of our parking lot." Approximately 9,000 square yards will be paved by S&K Dirtworks, of Rogers, Ark. Crews will also be creating a drainage plan and striping the lot. Estimated cost of the project is around $200,000, according to Walker, and should be completed by the end of July. Funding for the project came from the district's building fund.
