Lawrence Irwin Miller, 91, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital.
He was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Cassville, son of the late A.M. Miller and Lula Irwin Miller. He grad- uated from Cassville High School and worked for a brief time before joining the U.S. Army. He served during World War II in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatres. He returned to Cassville where he married Evelyn L. Mandell on Feb. 12, 1949. He then rejoined the Army where he was stationed in Ft. Smith, Ark. He served a total of 23 years, and retired in 1967 as a sergeant. After retiring from the Army, he moved to Joplin in 1966 and began his employment with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
He was a member of the Cassville Masonic Lodge #383 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years, the Cassville American Legion. He was baptized at Blendville Christian Church of Joplin. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Evelyn; daughter, Judy Heiniger and husband, Bob, of Joplin; son, David Miller, of Joplin; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Hal Miller and wife, Wilma, of Cassville; a sister, Lotsee Campbell, of Owasso, Okla.; and sister-in-law, Betty Miller, of Cassville.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Phillip McClendon officiating. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
