Annual BC land tax sale to be held

The annual Barry County Land Tax Sale is scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26 at the Barry County Courthouse in Cassville, according to County Collector Janice Varner. The land sale will be advertised in the Cassville Democrat for three consecutive weeks beginning on July 17. After publication, copies of the properties for sale will be available in the collector's office.

Preschool and kindergarten screenings

Exeter R-6 School District will be holding preschool and kindergarten screenings on Aug. 1. Parents with eligible children are asked to make an appointment to have their child/children screened. Children age 5 before July 31 are eligible to enter Kindergarten. Children age 4 before July 31 are eligible to enter preschool. Parents should take the child/children's birth certificate, current immunization record, proof of residency and social security number to the appointment. Eggs and Issues Breakfast

Members of the Cassville Chamber of Commerce are invited to attend an Eggs and Issues breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, in Conference Room C at Mercy Hospital Cassville. Senator David Sater and Representative Scott Fitzpatrick will report on the 2013 legislative session. The event is sponsored by CenturyLink. RSVP to the Cassville Chamber of Commerce at 847-2814.

Car club to hold monthly meeting

The Cassville Cruisers car club will hold its monthly cruise-in starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at the Barry County Museum, located on Highway 112 south of Cassville. The club will provide free watermelon for everyone. Concessions will be provided by Habitat for Humanity. The museum will be open during the regular cruise-in.

Second Purdy Festival slated

The second annual Purdy Festival is slated to kick off on July 20 with carnival rides for the kids, water activities, a petting zoo and a 5K run. The event will also feature a bathtub race and classic and antique car show. Various bands will provide entertainment throughout the day. Veterans will be honored at a special reception. Students named to Chancellor's List

The following students have been named to the University of Arkansas Chancellor's List for the spring semester 2013. They are: Charles Withnell, Verona; Keri Stubbs, Amy Stockton, Chris Smith and Justin Mills, all of Cassville; Brooke Beckwith and Mary Martin, of Monett; and Augusta Fields, of Washburn.

Seligman dance to be held on July 11

The Seligman Lions Club Dance, which is usually held on the first Thursday of the month, will be held on July 11 due to the July Fourth holiday. The monthly dance will return to its regular date in August. The dance on July 11 will begin at 7 p.m. at the Seligman Community Building and will feature Frosty Garland and the Road Hogs. CHS Class of 2008 records to be purged

Cassville High School will be purging the cumulative school records for the graduating Class of 2008. Those who want their records must pick them up in person at the high school between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. by July 31. Those who are unable to pick them up in person and would like someone else to do it for them must give that person a signed request before the school can release the records. In addition, anyone who should have graduated with the Class of 2008 but dropped out may also pick up their records.

Demolition Derby rescheduled

The Cassville Rotary Club will present its 11th annual Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Bill Hailey Rodeo Arena in Cassville. Classes include modified old iron 1980 and up; stock 1980 and newer; and compact. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children age 6 to 12. Children under the age of 6 are admitted free.
