50 Years Ago

July 17, 1963

Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hall have started construction on their summer home on Table Rock Lake in the Campbell Point area.

Cassville Rotary Club elected new officers for the coming year. The newly elected officials are: Jack Byrd, president; John Hubbard, vice president; Dean Brown, secretary-treasurer; Carter Koon, bulletin editor; and board members, Bill LeCompte, Joe Ellis and T.J. Smading.

The Cassville Industrial Development Corporation has entered into an option agreement with the Barry County Court on the purchase of 20 acres of land at the old County Farm. Terms of the option were for $300 per acre.

Dr. and Mrs. Reat E. Morris and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Strickland attended the state Optimist board meeting held in Columbia over the weekend.

The painstaking process involved in bringing a large, new industry to Cassville is nearing the completion stage, according to officials of the U.S. Shoe Corporation of Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Cassville Industrial Development Corporation.

Voters in Barry County approved the school reorganization proposals in Tuesday's election. McDowell will join the Purdy District, and Lee will now join the Monett District.

July 25, 1973

Corporal Charles Weathers, of the Missouri Park Ranger staff, stationed at Roaring River State Park, has resigned effective Aug. 1, according to James Woods, park superintendent.

Rosemary Curry, of Eagle Rock, has been named office supervisor for Dr. Mary Merideth, of Cassville. Mrs. Curry replaces Viva Pennel, whose family has moved to Oklahoma.

A graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, veteran attorney D. George Eblen has opened offices for general law practice at Shell Knob.

The Cassville Board of Education established a budge for the coming year during a regular meeting held Monday night. Superintendent James Ford said the approved budget amount was $1,295,233.

Ralph Haddock, plumber with Freddie Evans Plumbing in Cassville, suffered the loss of a finger on his right hand and a leg injury due to an accident with a construction project. Ron Stough, new pastor of the Mill Street Church of Christ in Cassville, is a native of Montgomery, Ala.

30 Years Ago

July 6, 1983

Carolyn M. Hunter, DMD, has purchased the dental practice of Dr. Estel Landreth. Dr. Hunter will begin her practice on July 11. Dr. Landreth had practiced in Cassville since 1976.

Fire destroyed the Dan Boxley Service Station in Washburn about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

New officers for the Cassville Rotary Club were chosen last week. Officers in charge for the coming year are: Bob Allen, president; Marvin Gandy, vice president; Jim Haenig, secretary-treasurer; Jerry Marple, bulletin editor; and directors, John Starchman, John Anglum and Mark Smith.
