Memorial basketball tourney benefits SW Athletic Booster Club
Several Southwest High School alumni gathered on May 11 to pay tribute to a good friend, athlete and past Southwest student, Desiree Evans, who was tragically killed in a car crash at the age of 17 on May 11, 2001.
Desiree's family decided to hold a memorial benefit basketball tournament in her honor and donate the proceeds to the Southwest Athletic Booster Club.
There were two women's teams and two men's teams made up of Southwest alumni and friends.
There was a small concession stand run by the Southwest boys' basketball team, which received the proceeds. Money was collected for entry fees, T-shirt sales and a small admission fee with a total of $456 raised for the Southwest Athletic Booster Club.
The family thanked everyone who worked to organize the benefit, including those who came to watch, who played in the games, who bought T-shirts, who kept score and who took admission in memory of Desiree.
