Duane Sholes, 82, of Cassville, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013, at Benchmark Healthcare of Monett. He was born on July 21, 1930, to William and Grace Sholes in Tekonsha, Mich. He enlisted in the Marines and served in the Korean Conflict. On Dec. 4, 1954, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Bradd in Jackson, Mich. He served as a deputy warden for the state of Michigan Prison System until his retirement in 1981. Upon retirement, they moved to Cassville, where they built their home.
Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Cynthia Sholes, of Cassville; one son, Brad Sholes, of Cassville; one daughter, Sandra Barron, of Cassville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lavinia Hampton, of Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Lynn Sholes.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the White Funeral Home, Cassville, with John Flowers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at McKinney Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cassville Library and entrusted to the White Funeral Home.
