Newspaper hires summer intern
The Cassville Democrat welcomes Joshua Boley to its newspaper staff as a summer news intern.
Boley will be a senior at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, where he is majoring in mass communication with an emphasis in photojournalism. He also serves as editor-in-chief of the Chart, MSSU's student newspaper.
The 1995 graduate of Cassville High School will be writing news stories and photographing special events for the Democrat through mid-August. He has already had several news stories and photos published in the newspaper and is a contributor to Ozarks Outdoors magazine.
Before deciding to pursue a journalism career, Boley served for two and a half years in the Marine Corps Reserves before receiving an honorable discharge for medical reasons. He also worked as a draftsman for a number of years at area industries, including Arning in Cassville, T & C Stainless in Mt. Vernon and Stainless Fabrication Inc. in Springfield.
When Boley decided to return to the classroom, he enrolled at Crowder College where he earned an associates degree in journalism and public relations.
"I was looking for something where you didn't sit behind a desk 24/7 and would be doing something different every day," said Boley.
"I love getting to meet so many different people from so many different places," added Boley. "Everybody has a story and a different way of looking at things. I love that."
Boley said he loves all aspects of journalism but is most passionate about photography.
"At the time I got into journalism, I wanted my emphasis to be in writing," said Boley. "I didn't know anything about photography, but I took one class and that changed everything."
Boley can be contacted at the Cassville Democrat office at 847-2610 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Boley lives in Cassville and has a 14-year-old daughter, Morgan.
