Several Cassville High School band students recently competed in the MSHSAA State Music Festival at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Eligible students were able to compete and receive ratings on individual solos and small ensembles. Students gain state eligibility by competing at the district level and receiving a I, or superior, rating. Stussy Stephenson received a I rating for his tuba solo, and Anthony Harris received a superior rating for his multiple percussion solo. Mixed clarinet quartet members Lindsay Lawson, Kathleen Hurst, Shannon Reidlinger and Xamuyee Thao also received a I rating. Samantha Groth, Kristeen Albert and Caleb Roller performed a mixed woodwind trio piece at the event. Pictured above, in the front row, from left, are: Stephenson, Harris, Groth and Thao. Back row: Hurst, Lawson, Albert and Reidlinger. The CHS concert band recently competed in the MSHSAA State Band Festival at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. The band performed prepared pieces for a judging panel, as well as a sight-reading for a separate judge. The performance earned a I rating. This is the third consecutive year that the CHS concert band has received a composite honor I rating at the event. Democrat Photo/Lindsay Reed
