Monett man wanted for bank robbery

The FBI and area law enforcement agencies are searching for a Monett man in connection with the armed robbery of a Great Southern Bank branch in Springfield on June 14.

Joseph K. Meierotto, 49, of Monett, was formally charged with bank robbery in the U.S. District Court in Springfield on June 18 after he was identified through bank surveillance photos.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Meierotto entered Great Southern Bank at 507 E. Kearney St. in Springfield at about 5 p.m. on Friday, June 14, pretending to conduct bank business. He left the bank and then allegedly returned a short time later wielding a gun and demanding cash.

Meirerotto fled the scene in a vehicle allegedly stolen from Barry County. The stolen vehicle was recovered, but Meirerotto remains at large.

Federal authorities are asking for the public's assistance in locating Meierotto, who has been charged but not arrested.

Meierotto is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call the FBI at 417-882-3303.
