A Washburn woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on June 18 that closed down Highway 37 north of Purdy for a number of hours while emergency workers responded to the scene.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Charlene M. Vanderpool, 79, of Washburn, was driving her 1999 Subaru Forester south on Highway 37 at 2:20 p.m. when she crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2001 Freightliner head on.

Vanderpool was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:15 p.m. by Barry County Deputy Coroner Charlie McManus.

The driver of the semi-truck, James H. Huffman, 64, of Morganton, Ga., was not injured in the crash.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Purdy Police and the Missouri Department of Transportation responded to the crash and assisted at the scene.
