Roy Leonard Thurman, 88, of Shell Knob, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013, in his home.

He was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Turner, Kan., the son of Claude and Hettie (Hale) Thurman. On March 16, 1946, in Olathe, Kan., he was united in marriage to Norma Lee Moore, who survives. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Delores Ann Flathers, of Shell Knob.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Homer Thurman and Junior Thurman.

He grew up in Turner, Kan., where he received his education. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from Nov. 14, 1950, to Jan. 27, 1952. For several years, he was a postal clerk for the United States Railway Mail Service. Upon his retirement, he moved from Kansas to Mano, and 16 years ago, he made his home in Shell Knob.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Burial will be Friday in Painter Cemetery.
